Wow, time has flown. I apologize for the silence... but it has not been for lack of subject-matter!
Exactly four weeks ago I officially began deputation, which means contacting Independent Baptist Churches around the MD, VA, DC, CT, WV etc areas, and asking for the opportunity to present my ministry and goals.
As I present my ministry, a church has the option of "taking me on" for support. Basically funding me monthly with an amount that they decide.
Though often seen as a difficult time for missionaries, I have been very encouraged by the warm reception I have experienced so far. Though not all the churches I have presented at have taken me on, many have given very generous "love offerings" to help me pay for travel expenses along the way.
An important part of my presentation is my deputation DVD, a 5 min video explaining the needs of the international Deaf community, who I am, my experience, my background, and my goals; along with a quick introduction of the team I'll be working with ("Team Honduras"). To creat this DVD, I spent a week at my
mission board, Baptist International Missions, Inc. in Chattanooga, TN. I learned a ton about sound, video, recording, graphics, etc. from their video guy, Don.
It was time well spent, and I am thrilled to be able to show it in churches (3 and counting) over the past 3 weeks. Every time I watch it, it reminds me again of how God has so carefully and intentionally led me to where I am now. What incredible peace there is in knowing I am in the center of His plan. It's hard to imagine a better existence.
Please keep me in prayer as I drive many miles, and spend a lot of time on the phone and at the post office (mailing my informational packet to churches). May God bless you all!
